April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

“Pinwheels of Possibility”

The theme for Child Abuse Prevention Month 2026 was “Pinwheels of Possibility.”

Pinwheels of Possibility celebrates the limitless potential of children and families when communities come together to support them.

The spinning pinwheel shows us what that support can look like: with families at the center, each turn represents the systems, programs, policies, and everyday acts of care that strengthen them and help them thrive.

At a moment when families are facing rising costs, heightened stress, and widening gaps in support, we are stepping forward with a clear message:

When we invest in families early and often, we create the conditions where children can grow up safe, supported, and full of possibility.

Celebrating a Statewide Commitment to Prevention

We’re excited to share that the Governor of Colorado has officially proclaimed April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month!

This proclamation is a powerful recognition of the work happening across our state to support families and help children thrive. It reflects a growing, statewide commitment to prevention and to creating the conditions where all children can grow up safe, supported, and full of possibility.

Together, with partners and communities across Colorado, we’re building momentum for a future where families are strong and children have what they need to thrive.

Get Involved

Around the month of April, for more than ten years now, you may have seen blue pinwheels in your community, at school, day care, or a local hospital or nonprofit organization, and wondered, why? It’s because pinwheels represent the bright childhoods we all want for children.

Each year, the hope is you will do more than see pinwheels in your community.  There are many ways to get involved and learn more during Child Abuse Prevention Month and all year long.
